The 2017 VW Passat will be launched with a petrol powertrain, which is likely to be the 1.8-litre TSI engine that is good to churn out 180 hp.
We had earlier reported about Volkswagen testing its 2017 Passat on Indian roads for the first time. The 2017 VW Passat was earlier expected to be launched in the second quarter of next year, however, fresh reports suggest that the German carmaker will launch the eight generation VW Passat in January 2017. The 2017 VW Passat will compete with Skoda Superb and Toyota Camry.
According to an exclusive report on Autocar India, the 2017 VW Passat will be launched with a petrol powertrain, which is likely to be the 1.8-litre TSI engine that is good to churn out 180 hp. The same engine also does duty under the hood of the Skoda Octavia and Superb. The engine is expected to be mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. A diesel variant with a 2.0-litre diesel powertrain is likely to be introduced later.
The eighth generation VW Passat is tad smaller than its predecessor but as claimed by the company, with the MQB platform, the new Passat will get bigger cabin space.
VW is also in plans to introduce the plug-in hybrid Passat GTE in India, however, the hybrid model will be initially introduced in limited numbers. The Passat GTE will compete with the upcoming Honda Accord Hybrid.
