The series of Electric buses launched by Tata Motors include the Starbus Electric 9m, the Starbus Electric 12m and the Startbus Hybrid 12m buses.
Tata Motors announced the launch of a series of eco-friendly buses in India on January 25. The series of Electric buses launched by the company include the Starbus Electric 9m, the Starbus Electric 12m and the Startbus Hybrid 12m buses. Tata Motors had also displayed a range of Smart Buses that are powered by alternate fuels and are ideal to meet the current and future passenger transportation needs of Smart Cities.
The Starbus Hybrid is powered by an electric-diesel powertrain, wherein, the diesel engine is BSIV compliant. The Hybrid bus is based on a modular platform and complies with UBS-II (Urban Bus Specifications), AIS 051 (Automotive Industry Standards) and CMVR (Central Motor Vehicle Rules). The electric motors will be powered by lithium ion phosphate batteries. The hybrid buses will be powered by an electronically controlled air suspension, automatic transmission, electronically controlled brakes and regenerative braking system.

Tata Motors currently designs, develops and manufacturers its buses in Pune, Dharwad, Pantnagar and Lucknow.
