Tesla has unveiled the first teaser images of its upcoming all-electric compact SUV, Model Y at the company’s 2017 Annual Shareholder Meeting at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View, California. The electric carmaker plans to position the Model Y compact crossover below the Model X.
The Model Y is likely to be unveiled in 2019 or 2020 and will be built on an all-new platform, confirms Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk. Musk has also hinted that the company might establish a new production unit for the Model Y, as it expects the Model Y to do better than the upcoming entry level sedan Model 3. It is being speculated that that the overall design of Model Y will largely be inspired from the Model 3, however, it is yet to be confirmed if, Model Y will be equipped with the same kind of doors that will be equipped in the Model X. Tesla’s Model Y will continue to get the autonomous driving functions.
